My next exhibition in 2018

This body of work explores subtle line-work and castings and the re-emergence of archaic forms in contemporary culture through ceramic sculptures and copper glazes.  I seek to create optical illusions through an interplay of abstract form and line-work that distorts and shifts balance within the object.  The sculptures are created so that seen from one angle they may appear as large blocks, but from another they are quite narrow forms.

I have been drawn to working with the archaic, due to my interest in the rediscovering of technology and methodologies from the past and the detail built up on the surfaces of old buildings.  Seeking for my work to replicate this ageless quality of being from centuries ago or from way into the future.

Recently I completed a workshop at Veg Out Community Gardens, in the community art room with Elwood Secondary College, where I cast the students faces in order to teach them casting technique’s.  This work led me to question how I could create collaborations within my work.  The subtlety of the casts created a dynamic relationship with the the more heavily worked archaic forms.

I will create a series of these works exploring this relationship further and I am excited to invite these students back to see a finished outcome of our collaborations.
